SEPARATION AND DIVORCE

I Corinthians 7:10-17

Verse 10 Before a wife is parted from her husband physically she has long before departed mentally. When a wife or husband allows thoughts, situations, or other people separate her from her husband, she weakens her marriage. Can you think of ways to strengthen your marriage and prevent weakness as a wife or husband?

Verse 11 The husband is not to put away his wife.

We are admonished here not to shut one another out. Our imagination, our visions, and our dreams should include one another. In a divorce it is not the slip of paper from the court that grieves God, but the hurt we cause one another when we withdraw our own love and refuse to receive our partners. Trust that is broken hurts God because it hurts us. He loves us and wants us to prosper and be joyful.

If you are already divorced do not allow others to condemn you. We cannot relive our past and change it; but the testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy, or the spirit of the future. He gave His blood to cleanse us from all our unrighteousness. Put away your past and trust the Lord to create in you a new future. Ask the Lord to forgive you and your ex partner. Ask Him to heal and cleanse you both. The Lord will restore you and take away the pain. He will show you the path for your future.

Verse 15 Perhaps you became a Christian and your mate did not, and now he or she has left you; you are not under bondage or tied in any way once your mate has left you. When the legalities are complete you are free to do as you please in the Lord, remain single or marry. God has called us to peace, so we are not to provoke our mate to leave us, but we are also not to prevent them from departing. A growing church has happy marriages. Let us grow in love and in Christ. God’s will is unity. God’s choice is our happiness.
