Vision and Communication

The greatest enemy of communication is assumption, so don’t assume anything. Follow the advice the Lord gives in this Book

Habakkuk 2:2: And the Lord answered me and said, write the vision and make it plain upon the tablet that he may run that reads it, the vision is yet for an appointed time but at the end it shall speak out and not lie, though it tarry wait for it because it will surely come it will not tarry.

Husbands and wives will not have identical visions, but they will have visions that can work together, because God has placed those visions in their heart. When you are writing your vision down, make it clear to the other partner what you are expecting from life and what you hope to accomplish. This will make it easier for the other partner to work with you and to please you, and for both of you to follow the Lord together.

I recently asked a group of men and women what attitudes and actions they felt would pave the way for communication.

1. I want to be accepted for the person I am, not just for the job that I do.

2. It is great to work with a person who does not make a big deal about my mistakes.

3. Let’s make really listening to one another a top priority.

Be specific with all communication, and quick to forgive misunderstanding. When there is a problem admit that it exists, and be ready to deal with it right away. Keep your nose out of others’ responsibility, and try not to subvert them to your own methods. When a difference of opinion exists, be willing to admit your own error. Stop and listen to the other individual. Be quiet and non threatening while explaining your view point. Give others time to make changes and don’t bring up the past. Remember that our life is constantly changing, and it is important that we keep current the information about our visions and about how we feel about things.

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and communicate and forget not for with such sacrifice God is well pleased.

Galatians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth but that which is                                 good to the use of edifying that it may minister grace unto the hearer.
